Kurt Horvath
PRESIDENT, GRP
Kurt Horvath has been a leader in roof garden design and implementation in the Midwest since taking the company in this direction in 1998. Realizing that Intrinsic's environmental mission aligned with more environmentally sensitive building practices, Kurt created a division of the company to service this developing field. Kurt has worked and consulted on projects around the country and is the inspirational spirit behind our success and the driving creative force of Intrinsic Landscaping.

Kevin Crist
DIRECTOR OF CONSTRUCTION, GRP
Kevin Crist has been a critical part of the Intrinsic team since 2008 and serves as Director of Construction. He holds a B.S. of Crop and Soil Sciences: Advanced Study from Michigan State University, where he first studied green roof technologies two decades ago. He was fortunate to work directly with German experts to launch his career concurrent with the emergence of modern green roofs in the US. Crist manages Intrinsic’s estimating department, project manages his own portfolio, provides green roof consultation, and evaluates green roof system detailing. He was an editor for Green Roofs for Healthy Cities 401: Green Roof Plants and Growing Media and serves on the GRHC Advanced Maintenance Committee. Crist launched an original curriculum and taught a special topics green roof course at the College of DuPage.
Kevin has been involved in green roof project management since 2006 and has worked all across the country on projects ranging in size from small residences to multi-acre commercial structures, including hundreds of projects for Intrinsic.

Brian Barry
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER, LEEP AP
Brian joined the Intrinsic team in April 2011 and serves as Business Development Manager and Lead Designer. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Ornamental Horticulture from the University of Illinois – Champaign/Urbana and is a LEED AP. Brian has over twenty years of experience in the green industry in both the contracting and design realms. He works closely with architects, landscape architects, general contractors, developers, and building owners on some of our more complicated amenity deck projects. Brian has been involved in multiple award winning projects throughout North America and he focuses on practical solutions to deliver challenging projects on budget and on schedule.

Tommy Hileman
EXECUTIVE PROJECT MANAGER, GRP
Tommy has served multiple important roles for Intrinsic Landscaping since he joined the team in 2012 and is currently Intrinsic’s Executive Project Manager. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture from The Ohio State University and is certified Green Roof Professional. While at OSU Tommy's primary focus was sustainable architecture and the integration of landscape elements to bring greater efficiencies to our growing cities. Tommy, along with several other students at The Ohio State University, developed a team with the goal of installing the first living roof system at The Ohio State University. The Howlett Hall living roof was installed shortly after Tommy had graduated and relocated to Chicago, Illinois to further pursue his career with Intrinsic.
Throughout his career, Tommy has had the fortunate opportunity to work with numerous professionals: Engineers, Landscape Architects, Architects, developers and general contractors. Having always demonstrated a steadfast commitment to installing and maintaining sustainable landscape systems throughout the midwest Tommy has developed skills in contract negotiation, material procurement and delivery, installation, ongoing maintenance and subcontractor management. Tommy has played a role in over 400 successful living roof, living wall, permeable hardscape and many other sustainable landscape projects.

Ellen Kulik
PROJECT MANAGER
Ellen Kulik joined the Intrinsic team as a Project Engineer back in 2019. She is helpful with estimating green roofs, at-grade landscapes, and hardscape construction projects. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies and a minor in Water Resources from Montana State University in Bozeman, MT. Ellen is passionate about environmental issues and loves spending time outdoors.

Jack Horvath
PROJECT ENGINEER
Jack Horvath joined the Intrinsic team in August of 2021 and serves as a Project Engineer. He holds a B.S. in Horticulture from Michigan State University, where he first began his exposure to the landscape construction side of the industry. Jack brings a prideful work ethic that is committed to make sure everything is done flawlessly on any job. He considers his favorite Intrinsic project to be the green roof located on The Crystal Clinic Orthopedic Center in Fairlawn, Ohio. If Jack isn’t working at Intrinsic, he spends his time fishing or making hip-hop beats.

John Finnerty
MAINTENANCE ACCOUNT MANAGER
John joined Intrinsic in 2019 and has 30 years of experience in the Landscape industry. John specializes in property maintenance however he has worked in all aspects of the landscaping industry Design, Construction, Tree &Turf care, Pest management etc. throughout the eastern United States including many of private estates as well as healthcare and commercial projects.

Jack Beussink
ASSISTANT PROJECT MANAGER
Jack joined Intrinsic as our Assistant Project Manager in early 2024. He holds a degree in Construction Management from the University of Missouri and brings a wealth of hands-on experience to the team. Growing up on his family’s grain farm in Southeast Missouri, Jack developed a strong work ethic and a love for the outdoors. Over the years, he’s also worked in residential landscaping and on a golf course, further honing his skills in the field. Jack is passionate about being on-site and enjoys the behind-the-scenes work that helps bring projects to life. He takes pride in seeing his efforts come together in the final result.

Catie Lachel
HUMAN RESOURCES DIRECTOR
Catie joined the Intrinsic team in 2023. While new to the landscaping industry, she brings a wealth of experience from a diverse career, which spans positions at non-profits, in disaster restoration, and at a bakery. Her unique skill set includes expertise in human resources management, accounting, marketing, and event planning. As the Human Resources Director for Intrinsic Landscaping, Catie is deeply passionate about supporting individuals and cultivating a work environment where employees feel valued, empowered, and positioned to thrive and succeed. She is a proven master of organization who believes that most problems can be solved with a spreadsheet (and a cup of coffee).

Annie Van Kooten
FINANCIAL CONTROLLER
Annie Van Kooten joined the Intrinsic Landscaping team as Financial Controller in January 2025. With over 20 years of financial management experience in the construction and contracting industries, she specializes in payroll, union benefits, accounts payable, and financial reporting, ensuring the company’s financial health and operational efficiency.
Over the course of her career, Annie has played a pivotal role in implementing advanced accounting systems, streamlining financial processes, and maintaining strict regulatory compliance. Her expertise in financial reporting, payroll administration, and project accounting has contributed to the long-term stability and growth of the organizations she has supported.
Recognized for her precision, strategic insight, and collaborative leadership, Annie is dedicated to driving financial excellence and supporting the continued success of Intrinsic Landscaping.

Julian Deluna
FIELD SUPERVISOR
Julian joined the Intrinsic team in 2017 as a field laborer and quickly elevated himself to a position of foreman and ultimately our lead Field Supervisor. Julians communication skills, attention to detail, and eagerness to produce exceptional final results are a critical component to Intrinsic’s overall success. Julian has a passion for nature and creating unique green spaces for others to enjoy.
